Don't archive your 368 unsold summer shirts before June; your top seller sold 1 in 70 days

Do this

Do not archive, unpublish or write off any of the 474 shirts created in July and August 2026 before June 1, 2027; 368 of them have no sales yet. Open wescale-kb/planning/igl-ads-execution-plan-2026-07-08.md, find line 53, which reads makes catalog/organic sales? NO -> weak design, archive with no time limit, and add under it: "No design is archived until it has been live through one full March to May." On Tuesday, June 1, 2027, alongside the weekly scorecard you already submit, rank that batch by lifetime units sold (query below) and archive only the ones still at zero.

``sql -- G:\iris\igl-ops-sage\data\igl.db SELECT p.product_name, COALESCE(SUM(f.quantity),0) AS units FROM dim_products p LEFT JOIN fact_product_sales_daily f USING (shopify_product_id) WHERE p.shopify_created_at >= '2026-07-01' AND p.shopify_created_at < '2026-09-01' GROUP BY p.shopify_product_id ORDER BY units; ``

Eric Corry's "6-Month Rule" (no sales in 6 months = archive) would retire this batch in January to February 2027, one month before the first spring it will ever see. Keep his rule, and add the spring condition on top of it.

Why this is true · evidence · the thread

In IGL's own sales history, the store's current #1 shirt sold 1 unit in its first 70 days, so a gardening design's real verdict arrives in spring, whenever it was made.

The mastermind teaches a short horizon. Call #34's headline is "compress time horizons", Eric Corry's IGL mantra ends "Kill fast", and the July ads plan archives any design that does not sell, with no time limit at all. The founders shelf argues the other way. Bezos attached his 1997 letter to every shareholder letter for 20 years and quoted Graham: in the short run the market is a voting machine, in the long run a weighing machine. Rohr's first chapter is the same idea in spiritual form: a fixed reference point that outlasts the day's verdict, and change that is ongoing rather than judged on quick wins.

IGL's sales database settles which horizon fits a garden shirt. Of all 720 products created 2024-09-01 to 2026-05-10, 516 ever sold; 63% of those made their first sale after day 14, half after day 29, and 26% after day 90. The 110 shirts created in November and December 2025 sold 112 units in their first 70 days and 909 to date. Their top seller, Quietly Cheering for Moss (created 2025-11-25), sold 1 unit by day 70 (31st of 110), then 13 in March, 61 in April and 128 in May 2026, and has 300 to date. All 27 of its customer reviews date from April 2026 or later. The summer 2025 batch says the same thing: its #1, Listen to Birds Not News (99 units), was 7th of 120 at day 70.

No single shelf gets here. The library and the founders episodes supply the long horizon, the mastermind supplies the kill-fast rules and the archive gate that has no time limit, and only the sales database plus the review snapshot show that the store's best seller would have failed every one of those early tests.

Caveats. shopify_created_at is when a product was created, not when it was published or first advertised. Spring garden demand (April and May are IGL's strongest months outside December) explains much of the delay; that is the point, not a flaw. Product rows stop at 2026-08-31 creations; sales run through 2026-10-07. In the ops database the 474 summer shirts already carry lifecycle HOLD / stage TESTING (all live on Shopify); no automated archive rule was found in igl-ops-sage, so the risk is a manual clean-up under the written gate, not a script.
